Inside Middleby's Madrid Innovation Kitchen
Exploring the technology, live demonstrations and industry relationships shaping the future of professional catering.
A few fantastic days in Madrid gave our team the opportunity to get closer to the equipment, people and ideas behind some of today's professional kitchen innovations.
The JD Catering Equipment team recently visited Middleby's Innovation Kitchen in Madrid for an opportunity to see commercial catering equipment in action, experience live demonstrations and meet professionals from across the industry.
It was more than a chance to see new technology. Experiences like this help us understand how different products perform in practice, allowing us to have better-informed conversations with hospitality businesses across the UK.
What is the Middleby Innovation Kitchen?
The Middleby Innovation Kitchen is a dedicated demonstration and training facility where customers and industry partners can explore catering technology in working kitchen environments. Middleby officially opened the Madrid centre in March 2023.
According to Middleby Europe (2023), the facility was arranged around seven foodservice concepts, enabling visitors to experience equipment in settings relevant to different types of hospitality operations. These figures describe the facility at the time of its opening.
Rather than relying entirely on brochures and specifications, visitors can see cooking processes, explore equipment capabilities and ask practical questions about suitability for their own businesses.
Seeing professional kitchen technology in action
Live demonstrations were one of the most valuable aspects of our visit. They help show how equipment works in realistic conditions and give suppliers a clearer picture of how it may fit into a busy kitchen.
Middleby's portfolio includes brands such as Lincat, TurboChef, Middleby Marshall and Josper all identified among those represented at the Madrid facility when it opened (Middleby Europe, 2023). Seeing products and cooking techniques first-hand helps us understand the questions operators should be asking before making an investment.
Three things that matter to commercial kitchen operators
Reliable service
Choosing equipment that suits the volume, pace and demands of a particular kitchen can help support smoother day-to-day operations.
Practical layouts
Equipment dimensions, ventilation needs and workflow all matter, particularly for operators with limited kitchen space.
Better decisions
Seeing a product demonstrated can help businesses ask more informed questions before committing to a major purchase.
The right answer is never simply the newest product. What works for a high-volume restaurant may not be appropriate for a small café, hotel kitchen or takeaway. Understanding the application should always come first.
